Inspectors with the state Division of Highways say there was no major structural damage to the Parkersburg-Belpre Bridge that was struck by barges Wednesday.

DOH spokesman Brent Walker says the inspectors took an initial look at the bridge Wednesday and only noticed a few scrape marks, but they were able to take a more detailed look Thursday and found no problems.

Walker says the response to the incident by emergency and highway crews from West Virginia and Ohio along with the U.S. Coast Guard serves as a good example of interstate cooperation.

The bridge, which carries traffic from U.S. Route 50 over the Ohio River, was closed for a while, but reopened Wednesday night.
